Growing old vs growing mold: what’s the difference?

Not your usual self? Taking longer than normal to get up in the morning? While “I’m growing OLD” is obviously true, “I’m growing MOLD” may actually be to blame.

We often credit…

  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Poor memory, difficult word finding
  • Difficulty with concentration
  • Sudden weight gain
  • Morning stiffness, joint pain
  • Increased urinary frequency or increased thirst
  • Abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloating

…to the normal wear and tear that goes along with aging, but each of these also happen to be symptoms of Mold-Associated Illness¹.

The breakdown process

All things have their purpose. Mold exists to break down organic matter, such as leaves and bark outside and it’s an important part of our ecosystem. Outside mold is beneficial and has it’s place. Inside mold on the other hand, is problematic. You’re not bark, you’re not leaves. You don’t need to be broken down. Mold will do its job on whatever living matter it comes in contact with.

There are at least 100,000 types of mold and each variety of spore has a job to do. While some are mildly irritating, others are deadly². Mold’s sole job is to break down, decay or destroy.

Mold can be²:

🦠 Allergenic Molds that cause allergies and allergic reactions such as asthma attacks. 🦠 Pathogenic Molds that cause additional health problems in those suffering from an acute illness. 🦠 Toxigenic Molds that produce toxic substances that can lead to dangerous or even deadly health conditions. This is sometimes referred to as “toxic mold” (black mold).

If you see visible mold inside your home, you know mold is at work doing what it does best – destroying. Not only is it eating away at the surface it’s on, it’s also reproducing (with moisture and organic matter to feed on), then sporing out (traveling through the air looking for new matter to feed on).

How much can our body detox?

Just as mold destroys, our bodies are designed to fight back. We’re remarkably resilient and able to dump toxins on a daily basis. Can our bodies also get rid of mold or mycotoxins? In their Mold Matters podcast³, Jeremy Evans and mold expert Mike Adams explore the impact mold has on our body’s natural detox system.

Are you growing OLD or growing MOLD?

If your home has an abnormally high mold load, your body may also be feeling overloaded and may not be detoxing everything it’s taking in. Destroying the mold may actually help you get back on track to feeling like your not-so-old self again.
